Restore has been providing furniture aid through our Restore Centre since 2011, collecting donated items and giving them away to those in need. This has been hugely successful and we have seen many individuals and families helped through this project.
As with all our projects there has been a natural progression in the needs of the project.
In 2014 we restructured with 4 main aims:
1. Provide furniture aid to the local community
2. Stop unwanted furniture going to landfill
3. Up-cycle furniture to a saleable condition in order to raise funds
4. Provide work placement opportunities for our employability scheme
Restore Furniture’s core aim is still, and always will be, to provide free furniture items to those who cannot afford to buy them or need an emergency provision. Further to this we will be taking donating items not suitable for use and restoring them to their original quality (or better in some cases!). This allows us to provide affordable furniture options to people who do not qualify for free aid; further to this we will be able to generate funds for the project by selling high-quality items that have been lovingly restored. 100% of funds raised will stay within Restore and allow us to help more people; provide more aid, more services, more help and contribute to our core operational costs.
By linking with our Restore: Into Work Programme Restore Furniture will also provide valuable opportunities for job seekers. By offering work placements, training and valuable experience clients will be able to partake in numerous activities from stocking to sales and customer service to furniture renovation. This of course means that our furniture is not only lovingly restored but that it has played a significant part in restoring the unemployed skills and experiences to help them move forward in life.
To be a part of our journey its simple: apply for help, donate items, volunteer or buy your next addition to your furniture collection!
